Day 1: The walk begins – we are so lucky to be walking in clouds & mist until passed noon. 14kms the Game ranger tells us. Beautiful scenery, lovely fynbos…only just over the mountain – what an evil UP and UP and UP! Surely now we are on top? Spike says “hallo” and still we are on the up-down, up-down and still more up-downs.

Eventually we are all “home” and have a lovely soothing bath in the natural pools. Someone (before us) has crapped on the lawn area on the side of the house/shack we sleep in so we are sitting on the uneven front area. The hut is not luxury accommodation to state it mildly, but we find our spots and settle in for the night.

Day 2: We start off early for the next day’s 13 km and have a brilliant walk – mostly down-hill. Of course, now the “klippertjies” take their toll on already sore feet! We reach the river (with stunning pools) early and dive in! All inhibitions fly out the window with bras, panties and undies being the official dress-code. After some good R & R we decide to hit the EVIL UP HILL earlier, the sun is pumping and off we go.

One foot, one foot, up and rest. Then up and off again…the road is further than it looks. One has long realized that to trust a hiker regarding “how far still” is futile –all hikers are liars! One last VERY ERG uphill and we are on the sweet lawn of the Reserve Camp in the beautiful shade. We have an impromptu “shower” at the tap and just enjoy the calm and quiet – waiting for the others…We made it!

Until next time!!!
