Yzerfontein Caravan Park, Yzerfontein

Quiet day at Yzerfontein

Just a little inside an hour, outside of Cape Town this is a municipal run camp and caravan site.

One is able to book a site and pay electronically, which makes planning easier as you are assured of a specific site.

This site is great if you are a group going as all the sites have back to back built braai’s, which isn’t toooo lekker if you like to kuier at the fire. You can find yourself a meter or so away from your neighbour over a rib!

Ok if the neighbours are ok … not so lekker if they aren’t!

I would definitely book back to back sites next time and have the tents pitched on the ends and the “kuier area .” in the middle. That would work really nicely.

No sea view from any sites, that said this does give you shelter from the wind and make the site more accessible in windy weather, as the camp sites are patitioned with trees.

The ablutions are really nice, the management have divided the sites and each block gets their own keys. We had hot water all weekend and didn’t wait for a shower once.

The sites and braais are cleaned every morning. Each site has a black bin with a bag, which is really nice.

Taps are not available on each site, again if we went back I would remember to ask for a site with a tap. The taps are next to the braai and it means the neighbours have to walk right into the middle of your braai area to get water. Many people had 5 litre bottles they filled or even larger, to prevent invading the others space.

Sites are big, and have grass but it was dry when we were there…. Water was /is scarce, it was December.

We found this camp site to be very reasonably priced.
No shop on site, but there is a bottle store and shop right outside the gate.

You are issued with a remote and sets of keys for ablutions, for which they hold a deposit.

They also supply toilet paper at the office… this was something I hadn’t ever had before.
