Cape Winelands

cape winelands map

The boundaries of this municipality covers an area of more than 22000 square kilometres, and this area more or less covers the same boundaries as what used to be known as the “Boland”. In Afrikaans this means the “higher land”. The Cape Winelands is mostly mountainous, with some peaks reaching in an excess of 2000 metres, but there are also fertile valleys that produces some of the countries finest wines and fruit.

The region has a typical Mediterranean climate, summers are hot and very dry, and the winters are cold, with snow on the higher peaks, from July to September. The diversity of this region is truly astounding, boasting peaks, valleys cliffs, rivers, waterfalls caves etc, that no person would be able to visit all the natural features in one lifetime.
